The Cure – Plainsong Lyrics 12 years ago
I was once lying beside my closest friend in the park, watching the sunset, this album was on, but I had started it from Lullaby and put it on a loop. This song came on just as the sun began to hide behind the trees and the sky was a thousand shades of orange. It was summer, but it was cold.
I remember looking over him trying not to cry as we rocked back and forth as we lay side by side on one of those oversized childrens swings. He was completely still, just watching the sky with his big pale eyes.
He was bipolar and in the middle of a manic episode, when he was like that he'd keep you on your toes, you know? You always had to try and keep one step ahead of him, or else you could end up anywhere, he made everything seem so fragile. But suddenly for the first time in a while it was so calm and I remember this, and I remember not wanting this song to end or to ever go home and I loved him so much. I hope he knew that.
This song is more than just that memory though. He always spoke about death with this kind of hopefulness and dark optimism. The thought just makes me angry.

The Cure – Fascination Street Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it's about a woman he was infatuated with, not necessarily a relationship, maybe one of those complicated things when there's a person you've been obsessed with for a long, long time. A hot female friend maybe who's "friendzoned" you or whatever you want to call it. Hence why they were 'fascinated' by one another. But as soon as it happens you realise it was all in your head and there's no real connection there.
But as soon as they hit "fascination street" as it were, the fascination, the passion, fades and it's not exciting anymore and there's nothing other than that superficial fascination they initially had with one another. As the passion fades it just becomes detached, meaningless sex. And with all of the memories, all of the fantasies and dreams, it's really extremely depressing.

Collide – Haunted When the Minutes Drag Lyrics 12 years ago
You know like, I'm happy, so this drug is to bring me down a bit, I'm sad, so I'll take something to bring me up... I don't feel anything, I'll take something that will make me feel something.

My interpretation is that it's about when you go a bit crazy with sadness when you miss someone for whatever reason, and then do a load of drugs to try and fix your head.

††† – †rophy Lyrics 13 years ago
I was listening to this song properly for the first time today on the bus. I drifted off into my own little world and it had me reminiscing about this one person who played with my heart once.
I looked up and guess who was stood near the bus window?
I almost had a heart attack.

I just wanted to tell someone that story.

Alice in Chains – Rain When I Die Lyrics 13 years ago
I always thought that this song is about a girl who he either never had, or may have had briefly, but she pursued him and wanted something serious, whilst he did not want her so much at the time. He didn't want her because he saw himself as free, wild, insoluble, and felt like she was trying to take his freedom.
She gets frustrated and her love turns into disdain, as it does.
Then, with the typical "want what you can't have" attitude, he changes his mind, and decides he actually kind of loves her now that she's had enough of him.

Dream Theater – The Root of All Evil Lyrics 13 years ago
It was intentional, but not for any deep meaning. Each song was written in a different key; this was written in F, the next song on the album is written in G. They intentionally connected the songs on the albums by using sound effects at the beginning of each song in the key inbetween, in this case in F# at the beginning of The Answer Lies Within. Try listening to The Answer Lies Within straight after instead of putting on shuffle and you will understand.

Savage Garden – To The Moon And Back Lyrics 14 years ago
codependency is more accurate, and a lot more realistic.
It's a state of mind which is usually brought on by a tough childhood where the parents were not able to provide the emotional support the child needed, and therefore it's quite common andas a result the child learns to "survive" without emotional support and this carries on to adulthood where the adult has no real grip on human affection; they tend to see the expression of emotion as weakness, they're scared of letting their guard down and they don't understand love. It has an effect on all relationships, not just intimate ones. They often seem emotionally withdrawn, and instead of getting angry they tend to play the victim and intentionally push the buttons and emotionally blackmail people, instead of losing their temper. These people often have an idealistic view of love as something they will never be able to obtain, and can go either way by abstaining from relationships, or desperately seeking love in the wrong places. They have a tendency to make up excuses for people, and as a result they often allow themselves to be abused and taken advantage of.
They're not crazy people, they're just emotionally immature children who desperately want to be loved, but don't know how it works. It's very common these days.

It's about a girl who suffers from a condition called co-dependency.
co-dependency is a condition which is usually brought on by a tough childhood where the parents were not able to provide the emotional support the child needed, as a result the child learns to "survive" without emotional support and this carries on to adulthood where the adult has no real grip on human affection; they tend to see the expression of emotion as weakness, they're scared of letting their guard down and they don't understand love. It has an effect on all relationships, not just intimate ones. These people often have an idealistic view of love as something they will never be able to obtain.
Of course there are many more severe symptoms of co-dependency that are not portrayed within this song, but that would ruin the song :)

Theatre of Tragedy – Siren Lyrics 14 years ago
You can't really translate it directly because most of it is archaic language, but i'm pretty sure it's about a siren falling in love with a bloke she was trying to lure and he's all wary of he and crapr. I will translate it to you in a completely unsonglike way…

Her: "Don't jump to conclusions,
the emptiness inside is taken over, Am I in love with you?
but I don't know who you are.
I swear from my heart that since I met you I've stopped luring men through song."
Him: "you'll never be left without my love, come."

Chorus:
Him: Your voice is so sweet
Her: I ask you to long for me
Him: Trying to draw me in
Her: Trying to draw you in.
Him: You want me to listen and obey you.
Her: Silent, yearning
Him: Hoping to lure
Her: Hoping to lure
Desperately singing, this song is for your ears only.
Don't run away, but come to me with ease.

Her: Perhaps lured here by the scent of the trees - An unexplainable phenomenena that a creature as evil as me, can suddenly have substance growing within
("'Od - the foetid - eft hie back i mote" Basically this is complicated and can't be translated directly at all. Od was once something used to describe something indescribable. "The foetid" she is describing herself as foul "eft hie back I mote" she is saying how the tiny bit of substance left inside of her is growing quickly like a tadpole growing into a newt)
What I did was like a punishment to my soul, but believe me, it wasn't a trick.
Him: I will marry you.

Goldfrapp – Cologne Cerrone Houdini Lyrics 14 years ago
I frequently wonder who transcribed the Seventh Tree lyrics and if they were actually deaf.
A pastel time = And passed the time

But out of all the transcribed lyrics this is the one that makes me lose the least faith in humanity. Well done.

Drill – Go to Hell Lyrics 14 years ago
Well this is a toughie, I had to think about this long and hard. But after painstakingly analysing the lyrics word-for-word I've come to the conclusion that what Lucia is trying to say in this song is something along the lines of "Go to hell"
