I think this is about laying out the terms of a sexually involved friendship. Jerry just wants to be friends with this girl, be honest and have fun, while the girl wants to play games and be involved emotionally. He wants a relationship where both of them can come and go as they please. "Come in when its raining, go out when its gone." He wants to be taken literally and doesn't want to her to think he's confused and they share some kind of misguided love. He wanted her when he was bored, needed emotional support as a friend, and now wants to pursue some better experiences. As consolation, he proposes they just support each other in this way in the future. |
