I resonate mostly with the first explanation... What I've noticed about Erlend's lyrics, as well as his music, is that he is extremely laconic through his simplicity. This song is an entire life story of the struggle in one's mental dialogue through change, specifically that from conformity to following one's own path. As one is reasoning with one's self, the "other voice" answers these questions/doubts. Also, the music and the lyrics have a "give and take" quality to them. The music in a sense portrays the activity of that particular line--giving the dialogue continuity through its rhythmic counterparts. Seriously though, absolutely love this one....prob one of my favorites of his and all time. |
