Far – The Ghost That Kept On Haunting Lyrics 14 years ago
This is actually one song from Mr. Matranga that I am actually stumped on. Well...not so much stumped...but I have multiple theories about the meaning of it. My best theory is as follows:

I have the idea that "The Ghost That Keeps On Haunting" is in reference to his dark side or his depression or suicidal back-up plans (although...I wouldn't necessarily go as far as the latter...just an idea to entertain). The lyrics "Anytime I miss you, I can see you again..." are vaguely reminiscent of some of the the lyrics in the song "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle" by Nirvana that read "I miss the comfort in being sad". Now, I feel it is important at this point to mention that I am in no way comparing Far to Nirvana because that would be a critique tragedy. This song just reminded me of those words in the sense that sometimes depression can be comforting because it is familiar. Even though it is sadness and lonliness and everything that isn't happy...it is sometimes comforting because of the fact that you are alone with your thoughts with no one to judge and no one to argue with.

Even though there are moments of periodic happiness, it always comes back to the dark times and has become predictable and familiar. Sometimes you just want to be there in that place.

Far – Give Me A Reason Lyrics 14 years ago
Again...pretty obvious and straight-forward.

The decision to end a relationship with anyone or anything always seems to go this way. The start of the song sums of up the initial feelings of anger and frustration. There is no room for cliched sentiments of optimism or attempts at feeling better. Stubborness prevails and opinions and feelings remain unchanged at this point. The decision has already been made and any small attempts at preservation are futile.

Even though he is telling he/she/it to give him a reason, he is only using these lines to express the futility and hopelessness of it all. He's done.

Far – Mother Mary Lyrics 14 years ago
Jonah's lyrics are always so over-analyzed. I find that he presents his points in a very straight-forward manner. The meaning isn't always immediately obvious, but it quickly becomes obvious with only a few listens.

With this song, I can say with confidence that he is making a point about the music industry and fame in general and his involvement within it. Mother Mary, Elvis...they are both famous and universally recognized. They will never be forgotten.

Artists like Jonah with only a desire to create music would never willingly decide on and consciously seek out fame...neither did Mother Mary nor Elvis. He is suggesting that being dead and forgotten is not such a bad thing..."Mother Mary over me"...I don't care about fame and being remembered.

Far – Man Overboard Lyrics 14 years ago
I think "waitingforsunday" is spot-on with this one. To me, the meaning of the lyrics are pretty obvious and straight-forward . Eloquence without verbosity. It reads like a short poem.

As can be related to by a lot of us, the opportunities were presented, but never jumped on. The ambitions were there, but the motivation was not. He even moved out West because of all of the "potential", but didn't get anywhere. Now everything passed him by and he feels like he has no more control and doesn't know what to do.
