I think that this is about a man who, prompted by the death of a friend from a drug overdose, decides to trade a high stress life of business success (danneman cigars and foreign cars) for a simpler life. Mending every minute of the day before (making up for wasted time), watchin the ocean watchin the shore watchin the sunrise and thinking there could never be more (he hadn't take the time in his previous life to enjoy it). Come on, come on, come on (he is encouraging us all to join him).
Taking charity from those he despises is collecting the dole from the government. |

I always thought that the song was about someone who had fled to avoid conscription, and avoid leaving his love behind.
Pack my bags to no place in no time no day (nowhere to go). How can I go home and not get blown away (he'll get arrested if he goes back home). I had plans for more than a wanted man. Ain't nobody (the government) gonna steal this heart away. |
