| Bob Dylan – I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine Lyrics | 12 years ago |

In my opinion, the sin Dylan (and all of us) have committed in this song is to condemn Augustines arguments for theology to obsoletion. The lines: "Oh, I awoke in anger So alone and terrified" represent our liberation from religious thought - but with it our sense of purpose and our comfort blanket, leaving us 'alone and terrified'. I say this as a non-theist. I'd always felt this song as a melancholy reflection that most non-theists have about the lack of purpose we seem to have. |

| Luckily our musicians have lived a little. Would be a pretty grey musical landscape if you were in charge. | |

| Hi. The song is all about Greenwich village and the folk revival. 'Bobby' is Mr. Zimmerman himself, 'the next big thing' is rumoured to be Joni Mitchell'. The black girl on the guitar I am not sure of - do some digging around the Greenwich scene in the 60's and it might become apparent. Lovely song. It references Van Ronk which is cool of Dave. | |
