Simon and Garfunkel – I Am A Rock Lyrics 14 years ago
Beautiful about longing for human contact whilst dead on the inside eaten up by fear, sorrow and so on, I loved it first time, still do. Outstanding lyrics; easy while serious. A realistic but sad, lonely and anxious poem from rock bottom - a present from a not-so-nice present. Paul S. is a serious and a truthful author. "I am a rock" could be losing a loved one, being lonely and dying, somebody lonely & longing for death, or someone longing for life but frightened and stuck in a labyrinth...It´s made in the spirit of "Paint it, black", but has more hope, a restless urge, a desperate need for something beyond self-loathing, pain & darkness. Inside a fortress worrying for the terrible outside, I always sensed cries for help between the lines. Searching a world without the mercilessness outside. The poetry one protects oneself with=contradiction, to ask the wolf for directions when lost in the forest...

Longing for human contact whilst dead on the inside eaten up by fear, sorrow and so on, I loved it first time, still do. Outstanding lyrics; easy - serious. Realistic but sad, lonely and anxious poem from rock bottom - a present from a not-so-nice present. Paul S is a serious and a careful author. "I am a rock" could be about losing a loved one, being lonely and dying, lonely & longing for death, or someone longing for life but frightened of it and therefor stuck. It´s made in the same spirit as "Paint it, black" by the Stones, but it has more hope than that one, it holds a restless urge, contains a desperate need for something beyond the isolation, the pain & the darkness. Inside worrying for the terrible outside, I always sensed cries for help between the lines though. Search for a world without the mercilessness outside. The poetry for protection is a form of contradiction though, like asking the wolf for directions when lost in the dark forest.

Beautiful about longing, my first thought when this tune came floating through my speakers 93-94 for the 1st time. The song was perfect and haunting, I still think so. The lyrics are brilliant, serious, gentle and quiet at the same time. Well described, genuine & plausible chain of thought inside a sad, isolated and scared persons down and out vie - reflections in the ruins of a lost life. Paul S. isn´t scared of the deep, serious look at such - he delivers plausible stuff packed as poetry and embedded in angelic music. I admire him & his honest ways. This is about the death of a loved one, or to die from disease, or be lonesome and planning suicide. Still, it´s real nice. It´s done in the spirit of Stone´s "Paint it, black" but expresses distant hopes below thick layers of depression, some restless urge, the crazy need for more than self-destruction and dark deep pain. The fortress -mighty-but I always heard a mute shout for help thru the music, beyond walls built against a merciless reality. The poetry and books, for protection, is a contradiction, like asking a wolf to guide one out the woods.

Beautiful about longing for human contact whilst dead on the inside because of fear and sorrow and so on, I loved it first time, still do. Outstanding lyrics; easy while serious. Sad view, a realistic but sad, lonely and anxious poem from rock bottom - a present from a not-so-nice present. Paul S is a serious and a truthful author. "I am a rock" could be losing a loved one, being lonely and dying, somebody lonely & longing for death, or someone longing for life but frightened and stuck in a labyrinth...It´s a masterpiece, in the spirit of "Paint it, black", but with more hope, a restless urge, a desperate need for something beyond self-loathing, pain & darkness. Inside a fortress worrying for the terrible outside, I always sensed cries for help between the lines. Searching a world without the mercilessness outside the gates. The poetry one protects oneself with is a sort of a contradiction, like asking the wolf for directions when lost in the forest... dont fool around, thats plausible words of a sad lonely scared anxious person and the way we often think of our lives as we really think about it. Paul S. is deep, serious and honest, I admire his honest ways. This could describe mourning the dead, or to be about to die, or being a lonely soul considering suicide, or a person who´s fear of dying derails life. It´s in many ways like the Stone´s "Paint it, black", but with hopes, an urge, a need for something far from darkness, something away from trails of pain -hidden meaning behind the curtains in this merciless world. Poetry for protection is a contradiction - you let the wolf help you out of the forest when you´re lost?

Pink Floyd – Southampton Dock Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is a powerful thougtful anti-war tune and overall a post-war-dream of a sane and human world performed in a nice, laid-back way. It´s beautifully done yet powerful in its complex simplicity. I love the drums that makes it sound march-like, its a blunt and razor-sharp statement against war and against those who opress others. It´s just so great and emotional.
I must say that I love the whole of the T.F.C album, it´s so incredible, somewhere in these realms I saw someone say that they thought this to be the best album of the 80´s, I must say I agree! The Final Cut holds the best songs of that era, and I hope no one has a heart attack when I add that I also see it as one of the best records of all times...
I am about 30 years old, so not saying that I have heard "everything", but I think I´ve listened to a handsome number of songs in my days...and this is THE album for me.
I am from Sweden, and there are a few nice troubadours and rock singers in our land who sing about love, hate, drugs, politics and so on. And there´s this one guy who mentions old Maggie in a song, he is singing in a song about a woman who sat in the Swed. governmnt only a while ago, and in the song calls her "Swedens own Maggie Thatcher"...
However, that woman resigned just the other day and - in hinesight - wasn´t that much of a monster after all, however she was conservative and a proud member of the Swedish glitterati. So the guy wasn´t wrong in his lyrics, but now, after that one comes this new minister of economics that has recently grabbed hold of the slippery reins, and this lunatic would fit in better in the song - she said in an interwiew I read that she saw Margaret Thatcher as "a big leader, a role model and a great woman"...
That´s kind of scary I must say.
But then again, what happened to the post-war dream of sane rulers?
And I can´t help but think that our possible pasts lie in tatters and rags...
Sorry for the long comment, will not write this much in every comment I make, I promise that...
and thank you everyone that posted info and thoughts on the lyrics, I have learned much reading here.
Thank you all. Peace...
