James Taylor – Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm surprised that nobody has really made an in-depth commentary on this song, because it's about a subject that I think relates to a lot of people.

To sum up, the song is basically about a man or woman saying "I don't care how you treat me, I don't care if you leave me tomorrow, just stay with me tonight". The song is about that desperate loneliness that we all feel now and again, where we just need someone to hold us, to feel someone's body against our own, even if we may feel completely differently the next day.

In the bridge, "go away then, damn you" is referring to the morning after 'tonight', when he knows that he won't feel the way he feels now and won't need someone to be with. "Do as you please, you ain't gonna see me getting down on my knees."

But the repetition of the first verse to close the song brings it back to the fact that regardless of how he'll feel tomorrow, tonight he just wants someone to hold.

Good Old War – My Name's Sorrow Lyrics 12 years ago
I see this song as being sung from the perspective of Sorrow itself, pining for some sort of happiness. He is clinging to this girl who was going through a bad time (and so spent some time with Sorrow), but is now starting to feel better and come out of the slump she was in. Sorrow is having trouble letting go, because he knows that he will be alone again once the girl is gone. So all he can hope for is that she will remember him, and every once in a while call his name.

Noah Gundersen – Honest Songs Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is an absolutely beautiful one about death, and how we cope with it. It suggests that even when we feel miserable and hopeless, confused or frustrated, we should never lose sight of the grand scheme of things, and always remember to give and appreciate everything we have.

The first verse speaks to the impossibility of trying to express our feelings in difficult situations. We can speak volumes, but never really let out how we truly feel. But if we truly want to express ourselves honestly, all we need to do is let ourselves go, stop trying to use words and use our bodies - our arms, eyes, hearts - instead.

The second verse describes how insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things, and that instead of being selfish, greedy, or having high expectations of the world, we should be thankful and spend our time giving back.

The third verse sort of complements the second, in that it talks about how even when things look most hopeless, we will "always see the sun".

The last line of the song, "May our hearts sing an honest sing", is almost a prayer. Here's to hoping that our hearts will always be true, and if we follow them, that they will never lead us astray.

Josh Ritter – Naked as a Window Lyrics 14 years ago
Such a beautiful song. It took me many times on repeat to try to figure out what it meant, but here's what I came up with:

I think this song is about a man who is deeply, deeply in love with a woman who feels vulnerable, and so does not want to be touched sexually, but wants the man's support and love. Although the man wants badly to begin engaging in sexual activities with his girlfriend ("you're asking too much to be held but not touched"), he loves her so much that he is willing to wait, to stay with her, regardless ("I'll take all that nothing over nothing at all").

Although it is short, the story of the song is fascinating and complex. Contrasted with the simple 4 chord tune, the song is sheer brilliance
