Ok, now there has been a lot of fighting about this song and the meaning. No ones interpretation is incorrect, everyone holds one or more aspects of the truth in their opinions and their view points. As I See it There are a few main interpretations: Religious: As in he lost touch with God and the good path, but then he found his way again and was so joyous that he wept tears of happiness at the reunion between him and his friend. Friendship: The friend is literally his friend whom he lost contact to through one reason or another, but then they crosses paths again later on in life. Flashback: He has lived out his life, and now he is looking back at his mistakes over time and his sacrifices. Overcoming: As in overcoming a bad patch in your life, for instance being obese or anorexic, and having to look back on how life used to be, and to overcome your problem. Therefore making yourself a stronger person and sacrificing something for the greater good. Relationship: As in he was in love with a woman but gave up his love for her for something else, and when they reunited he still had feelings for her but she had moved on, so he sacrificed his love for her for her happiness. Suicide: As in loosing someone that you love dearly and then deciding to pay the biggest sacrifice -your life- to be reunited with them once more. The list goes on, I also only gave briefs of each one. | I think this comment is lovely. Good on you for admitting everything you have. Life i hard, I understand that and sympathise with you. Though it dose not mean you can take it out on others. OK... I am not a catholic, but that does not mean you can't have faith, faith is from your own view point and perspective. I know about the stuff that happens on the news, I have been stabbed and purposely run over because I was *Different*. But this was not by Catholics. In fact, it was literally the church that saved me, I was almost killed, and if some of the good christians in my community hadn't saved me I'd be dead now. But that is not saying that there are Christians that consider themselves "Good People" and are total hypocrites. Many of these people do not follow their own teachings or moral backgrounds. But to say that all of one race or religion, do this or do that. Is being biased, discriminating, and stereotypical! You can be a catholic and get bullied you can be a non-beleiver, you could be Wiccan, spiritualist, jewish, any religion at all! You can show reason and faith. Because once reason has proved something to be true, do you not have faith that reason is right? I know Catholics, that believe in science, and in reason, and who are some of -literally- some of the smartest people in the country. your religion does not shape who you are! nothing does but your soul, your spirit, your characteristics, your personality, your achievements, and really, just the crude essence of who you are! and nothing can change that! Not all christians, are good. not all christians are bad. NON of them are the same. NOW TO THE SONG! I believe this song can be seen in thousands of different ways, and that each persons viewpoint is right, and is not up for debate. it could be about religion and finding your way back to God after a hard time. or it could be about relationships and how they play out. or it could be about doing something wrong and having to find yourself again after a long and bumpy road and having to face the truth and help yourself.
