The rap genius page gives a bit of a breakdown into what that part of the poem is about - I'm sure there's better analysis elsewhere but that format is good for this use.

I've seen a lot of people claim this, but was unable to find the song in that form after significant searching. The single came out July 15, 2007, and I'm pretty sure that version was "mouth". I would be surprised if they made some copies of RIOT with the explicit lyric and some without, although it's possible. But what really drives my skepticism is that I think she says mouth in this video from a live show months before the single dropped: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MTNaS788ok It's hard to hear, but it really doesn't sound like she's rhyming a word with "clock" there. And there would be no reason to censor it live, especially at that time. If anyone can put forth any actual support that the song ever said "cock" and it's not just a mishearing, I'd be interested to know... (After all I wasted a lot of time to not get a very definitive answer) |

The song is pretty straightforward, it's about fitting in with misfits and as it quite literally says "suburban counterculture" loitering at denny's etc. The song references some places from where MC grew up in Libertyville, IL. I was confused on a few so I looked them up. "Horsefeathers" is a jewelry store in Waukegan, IL that carries a bunch of other stuff (incense, etc.), possibly tea.
As for the line "We're not allowed in Downing's, so we'll make Denny's our dive", it is referring to a popular Libertyville Irish bar, Downing's, which they can't get into because they're underage. So instead their late-night 'dive' is Denny's. |
