Lorde – Team Lyrics 1 year ago
This song seems like some sort of take on the human condition. Lorde starts by describing what it’s like to be human like it’s a conspiracy. First we get a description from a sort of dissociated objective perspective, perhaps someone disillusioned by growing up and trying to find meaning through the confusion. “Lady’s with jewels and dental fillings”. “Dogs in collars with leashes”. It’s a conspiracy in the sense humans live together in this condition called civilization which is a complacency that’s nested inside the cold reality of the rest of the planet or perhaps the universe. “Even the comatose don’t dance and tell”.

This narrator in the song feels like humans are the blind leading the blind, like when they go to a concert and everyone throws their hands up in the air because they all want to be a part of something. Sometimes they feel like the next new thing is pumped out artificially and people are celebrating it though it has no intrinsic meaning or value.

They feel inexplicably in their core that this reality (the cities or the palaces we live in) has something wrong with it. They know this world will always be a fractal of perhaps some greater reality they sense could exist, which makes them feel that bittersweet nostalgia of not knowing why they are here.

It’s like everyone is competing for something that doesn’t really matter in the end. Materialism etc. It’s almost like we are unaware of the principalities that could exist beyond our material world. The narrator seems to suggest that we may inadvertently be manifesting something greater than ourselves through a sort of “portal” that is our perceived progression and achievements, such as building cities or perhaps something more abstract than that.

A literal way to explain it would be to say what if we built all these cities and then it turned out that from a bird’s eye view it was a giant micro chip or something.

The narrator feels that we think we are doing one thing in life, but in reality we are manifesting something else. The statement “we’re all competing for a love we won’t receive, because what this palace wants is release” seems to indicate that we are somehow manifesting something which is dormant and that whatever it is, is potentially dark or sinister.

In the end we are on each other’s team though we often feel we are separate adversaries.

Anyone wanna guess what that froggy sounding "voice" is saying at one part of the song? I like to think it's saying, "We can do- it- together"

Pink Floyd – Hey You Lyrics 14 years ago
I was listening to this song tonight and I think I know what it means to me. I think first it is open to interpretation. I don't think the line 'don't tell me there is no hope at all' is negative. I believe it is meant to show action, courage or integrity. A demand to fight. In a sense, I think Pink in the song, realizes he is unhappy, but cannot really see the wall. But every person who reads or hears the song. You see a part of yourself or everyone in the lyrics. You see the human condition and how we isolate ourselves but really are shouting for help! You see the wall. Hope is a weird thing, some teach that it is a distraction from logical action. But at the same time, hope has a weird 'effect'?. It can define if you're as good as dead. rotting away. or if you have something to fight for. A reason to keep going or trying. Pink may have decided that the wall was too high because he let doubt get the best of him. when sang, it's as if, they are saying "' apparently' the wall was too high , as you can see."
