| After the Sirens – The Lights at Nero's Party Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The song is a historical reference to a party thrown by the then king Nero after the great fire of Rome as described by Tacitus in his annals. The party was an attempt to draw the attention away from his recklessness that led to the fire. He blamed christians, followers of a new religion then for the fires. The huge party was thrown at the the palatial gardens of the palace. As lighting was a problem for such a huge place, it is belived Nero burned christians alive on crosses to light up the party for his guests whci included the who's who of Rome. The indifference and hypocrisy of the general public towards this inhuman act is portrayed in this song : "How vaguely we eschew complicity with You, it's always run-arounds, excuses" "like, do we care about the poor? Oh yes, but we support the king" However I think the band narrates the event alternatively from the christians own indifferent self and from the view of the general public .. Just a slight clue I had |
