Rolling is slang for using ecstasy, and ecstasy is a drug that makes the pupils dilate. The impression I get regarding this song is that they are reflecting on youth, on days when they partied together. Jumping over cemetery gates is about ignoring eventual mortality. I think having a rise and fall relates both to ecstasy use (coming up and the often depressing coming down) and also to life. We are in our prime in youth, and then as we age we fall. Ecstasy culture in general is kind of at odds with alcohol culture, the two experiences are very different and I think that is the reference about the booze generation. I think pulling stitches apart relates to the issues that may come up and be resolved while "rolling" (for example, the way ecstasy use may benefit those who suffer from PTSD). Overall - nostalgic, reflective on youth in a positive manner. |
