Maroon 5 – Misery Lyrics 7 years ago
I think it's about 2 people who are in a toxic relationship. He knows that she will hurt him, but he can't let go. She knows how to manipulate his insecurities. The cycle repeats itself.

Prince – America Lyrics 7 years ago
Very jaded but accurate view of 80's society. Rich men, seemingly without a care, but the Cold War and Communism scares them.

The African American woman who's practically working her self to death, just ti get by.

The frustrated young man who's ostracized for his disillusioned view of what patriotism and pride means to him.

The mushroom cloud reference could mean nuclear war. It could be a reference to falling prey to drug addiction

John Mayer – Daughters Lyrics 10 years ago
The girl in the song is symbolic. Whether her issues stem from the actions of fathers, lovers or men who she has emotional attachment to, the damage has been substantial. He sees everything that is wonderful about her, but their are barriers that he's constantly trying to break through. Wording the song the way he did, makes it easier not to focus on one specific woman, with one specific problem.

Whether it's absenteeism, lack of emotional connection, or abuse, can have serious carryover when dealing with men, later on in life. So does being heartbroken, being in toxic relationships, or being let down by people who say that they care.

When he talks about boys being strong and soldiering on, he's saying that society has taught boys to not show feelings of vulnerability, Which leads many of them to grow into the types of men that create the issues that the woman in the song has put up with. Basically, the cycle repeats itself, unless parents learn to be the best examples for their children.

The lyrics could apply to men, just as easily as it did for women.

The Temptations – I Can't Get Next To You Lyrics 10 years ago
Everything's perfect. Production, beat, vocals. Basically, it says that even if you can do amazing things, have great power, or influence, it's not enough to make someone love you. A sad song that makes you feel good.

The Temptations – Papa Was A Rollin' Stone Lyrics 10 years ago
The irony was that the Tempts initially hated the song. Dennis Edwards in particular, because he had to sing his line over 30 times. His anger is apparent. He's said that he was so upset, that he was trying not to explode, so he was showing restraint. They later found out that, this was Whitfield's intention. He wanted it to sound like an angry son that demands to know the truth, but has to show restraint, out of respect to his mother. The chorus of the song is the mother's response to each question. Which further angers the son. Norman Whitfield's true masterpiece.

New Edition – Can You Stand The Rain Lyrics 10 years ago
There's a dual meaning. It's about loyalty during the good and bad times of a relationship. I think it's also about how they were feeling at the time. There bubblegum sound was dated. Hip hop and R&B were becoming harder edged, and they had replaced Bobby Brown with a relatively unknown Johnny Gill. They were maturing, and there was some doubt regarding whether or not the group would be taken serious as adults.

Maroon 5 – Misery Lyrics 10 years ago
He's in a toxic relationship, but the idea of leaving makes him feel equally as miserable as staying. He's in love with the idea of being in love, but knows it will never be what he wants. The 200 letters thing, is a metaphor. He wants to communicate his feelings, but can't find the nerve.
