Thrice – Don't Tell And We Won't Ask Lyrics 11 years ago
tomsterD, I really wish I could but I only have the interviews on my super old ipod and don't think they're even on my computer anymore. After reading your reply I checked back on listenin.org and found that the site has changed dramatically. It appears many of the interviews are no longer available. I'll see if I can put one online and link it here at some point.

Thrice – Don't Tell And We Won't Ask Lyrics 12 years ago
Dustin is not speaking of abortion here at all, though I can see why some arrived at that conclusion. There are four great interviews Dustin gave on listenin.org/ in which he discusses the meaning behind many of Thrice's songs. Here is the idea behind "Don't Tell And We Won't Ask" in Dustin's own words:

"The things that are done in, like, our country's name that are not known about and we basically weigh our lives as more important than, you know, the lives of people in other places; and the decisions that are involved in that. Just kinda questioning like 'how do you live with this, how do you justify these things?' and um..."

[interviewer: "'how do you' the person making those decisions or 'how do we the people not asking'?"]

Dustin responds:

"The person making the decision and also I'd say us not caring a lot of times. Not wanting to see what's behind that curtain and... [recounts chorus] ...so it's just dealing with at some level you're making those calls and you're devaluing other human life as opposed to the human life that resides within this geographical boundary, you know, I think it's crazy."

So one could bend that to encompass abortion, to a degree, but it has to do with political action taken against other countries and how we, as a people, often are okay with the horrible things our country will do to others just because it's under the guise of keeping us safer.

I'd really recommend listening to the four interviews-- you can download them if you donate something like 99cents to a charity listed on the site, I believe.

Thrice – Flags of Dawn Lyrics 13 years ago
In the first verse, it should be:

"The lifeless forms of Saints
Return the silence to the snow.
And still, beneath, the grain is waiting
For its time to grow."

And the chorus is:

So hold on,
Hold tight.
Hope in daylight.
We will overcome.

I asked him about that one via tweet.

and this was him responding to another tweeter a few months earlier:

Thrice – Call It in the Air Lyrics 13 years ago
@URalwaysangry, no one is denying that the coin toss existed before No Country For Old Men, but if you've seen the scene from the movie, many of Dustin's phrases are clearly pulled from it, thus we may conclude that is where much of his inspiration emanated.

I'm glad someone mentioned the "No Country for Old Men" reference! I specifically just made an account to mention it then realized you beat me to it haha, well observed. I wonder if Dustin got it from watching the movie, or reading the book...
