| Jars of Clay – Oh My God Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I like this song, but here is my slant on the logic of Dan: "With Oh My God, we wanted to kind of communicate that nobody ever intersects with God, whether they choose to believe or not, and people all have their reasons for crying out to God. And some of those are really deep, deep doubts. There are times when I wrestle with that now, but growing up I didn’t know the gospel couldn't stand up to the scrutiny. It’s a question that I think needs to be asked. This song has three parts. It starts out being many people’ stories and the third part is my personal story...Why I cry out to God." |

| Tuck & Patti – Better Than Anything Lyrics | 13 years ago |

something about these lyrics frustrate me, and i'll tell you what it is. i believe the intent is to express that there is nothing better than love, however, instead the song lists numerous pleasurable items and activities that "something" is better than. this 'something' is better than all of those things, the only thing it isn't better than is being in love. so what frustrates me is that this something is never identified, and i don't even think it exists in the songwriter's head, as mentioned above i think the point is that nothing is better than love. however due to the way it was written, there apparently is something just below love but still better than all of these other things. funny how that bugs me so. |
