“Individually wrapped, placed in neat little rows, becoming A piece, of everything that grows, Some numbers, A name, to indicate you played the game, came empty handed and left the same.” The first time I heard this I thought he was talking about birth, but now I see it relates to death more. This description reminds me of a row of plants, as if death is almost a symbol for a major part in lifes. “A soul is a soul and a shell is a shell. The border in between is full of everything you felt.” We’ve all got souls and we’re all human, it just depends on the way we choose to live our life and how we personally handle whatever shit that life throws at us. Love, love, love the line: “Some cling to a cross because they’re tired and lost, they leave it up to the weather to measure the cost.” This line is phenomenal, and helps support that in his other songs when he refers to a god, he may not be talking about a literal god at all, but a woman or another subject entirely. I think that he’s saying that people so greatly fear death itself, that they get caught up trying to find clarity with religion, and how people often praise or blame this higher power for events in their life, instead of accepting life is what you make of it and embracing it. I think that’s also a main point of this song, that death is not something to be afraid of; it’s just part of a successful life. Not to mention, the line: “I wanna be buried with a pocket full of clarity.” — I feel like the clarity he’s talking about is not about understanding what happens after death but moreso his life or the meaning of life in general (living a life that’s "worth dying for") and spreading this message to people so that they act on it, knowing he's giving people a key to a better life. Slug makes it clear in most of his songs that he knows who he is and sees his flaws and “scars.” But this is what makes slug so respectable and intricate. “And as I look across the sea I smile at the sun, while it feeds the weeds the nutrition they need. >> Weeds, refers to people that are lost or going through a rough time, the sun is helping them grow, and their lives begin to get better. The people still breathe, the city still bleeds>> Shit happens, life goes on. I'm going to love it to death and keep planting my seeds.>> Either having to do with his kids, or creating ideas in peoples heads and provoking thought to those who listen to his music. I'm going to love it to death and keep an eye on the seed>> similar to the above, watching the kids grow, or observing how people interpret his music. I'll be in love till I’m dead, I keep reaching the seeds.>> Going to continue to love life until the day he dies, not going to waste it. Getting messages across to his fans or kids. I'll give all I got left just to teach you to read, Love life to the death and keep planting my seeds” >> Teach his own kids how to read, watching them grow, or teaching the people that take the time to really break down his lyrics new ways of seeing different concepts, or a new point of view of life itself. |

First off, one of my favorite Atmosphere songs, I wish more people would comment on it! Pretty sure that the correct lyrics are actually “Heaven won’t wait let me fly way, get in my way everyday.”... instead of what was written above. The meaning behind this song is apparent- Slug feeling stuck in a type of dystopia and stuck with himself, but wants nothing more than to escape. I think he's saying that we all do our best to cope with life and this society, so we shouldn't judge one other. "Not every pony grows up to be a Pegasus You gotta let people be hypocrites, Count your blessings and mind your business.” I've also always loved the line: "Here kitty kitty can't train that fox, must be drinkin' that name brand scotch." At first, I thought that Slug was referring to a woman or himself, and how alcohol ( like he talks about in the beginning of the song) is making himself or the mysterious "she" in his life act hostile, or out of line. But after what the person above me said about this line, i'm more curious about it. And lastly, just a thought about the hook, I think that he creates a more ideal place to be in his head, which he refers to as heaven ( another location, time, or mental state) He could also be literally meaning heaven. But he can’t get to this place because he’s stuck, the sun in his face — which is whatever keeps him confined to this depressing place he's confined to. Although he makes the sun blinding him sound like a negative factor in his life,it could be something good in his life if he's referring to heaven in a literal sense. The only way to escape this miserable life would be through death, in which the sun in his face might be one of the blessings in his life — possibly his son. Just trying to dig a little deeper to see if there's more to this song and hope more people comment on it! |
