Why does it have to be a wolf? Couldn't it just be a dog? After all, Tony had a dog once (which passed away) that he really loved. I think this is just a song from a dog's perspective, and how it views its owner, and struggles with its own instincts. |

First off, "Silent Waters" is about a part of the Kalevala, and Wikipedia has a quick summary of what happens here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalevala#The_first_Lemmink.C3.A4inen_cycle
In this song, Lemminkainen, the main character, looks back at what he's done, and how he's changed. He's gone from a wild, cocky kid to a humbled man after trying and failing to kill the white swan. He won't be able to live with himself after failing at something for the first time in his life, but he knows his limits now, and he's a better man for it. |

Amorphis's site has a discography section, where they say which part of the Kalevala each song is from. Apparently, this one's from the part (chapter XXVII) where Lemminkainen crashes a party, and the people there aren't too happy about it. He gets into a conjuring duel (the "Magic" part of the title) with the hostess, and chops off the host's head in a swordfight ("Mayhem"). |

No, he's right. Amorphis's last four albums (Eclipse through Beginning Of Time) are each about a different character from the Kalevala (an epic poem based on Finnish folklore). And yes, one of them does get cut to pieces, then stitched back up and revived by his mother. And that's not even the weirdest part. |

I think it's from Ilmarinen's point of view (maybe just this song). I heard Eclipse is about Kullervo's cycle, but it kind of sounds like Ilmarinen talking to his wife (there are more songs like this on Skyforger). Maybe foreshadowing what happens next... Kullervo kills her shortly afterwards. |
