| I think this song is most likely about knowledge and energy. Energy, being the ability to work or cause change, is represented by references to turning on the lights and the finite ability to sustain the lights. The light refers to knowledge as it has symbolically represented throughout history. He seems to indicate his ability to learn and share knowledge will be limited only by death. | |

My take and breakdown: “the full moon is rising over dark water”: Information is gatherable from the unknown if we are willing to notice. The placated are playing a game (pick up sticks) as mankind is in need of real data to survive. Whether you are in the scientific camp or the religious camp, we are all on the Bright Ship Humana and we are all traveling together. The waters are both dangerous and pleasurable. We should not be content to “hide in our quarters” at the expense of the perceivable pleasures offered; however, our ship is currently without course. This is our demise by our own complacent hand. I believe this song dares that we attempt to navigate the Bright Ship Humana using empirical data as it becomes available rather than set idle and be lead by established misinformation. |
