parberoo that more or less sums it up. This song has nothing to do with aliens. Our protagonist feels like an alien in his new town and is longing for the place where everything makes sense and people are real and the sky never 'turns green'. I am a huge Genesis fan; they are my second favorite band in the world. This album and Ray Wilson were fine with me; I think the reason Genesis fizzled had a lot less to do with the loss of Phil and more to do with the fact that the adult contemporary-ish model that still worked with 'We Can't Dance' in '91 was no longer a draw in '97 and Mike and Tony had run out of viable ideas for material that would resonate with their longtime fan base. |

There's no info on this song on any other site that I have found, but to me it seems to tell the not-so-uncommon story of a young horny male who accidentally crosses the 'line' one night and ends up in the slammer, gets out, and finds that society will have nothing to do with him -- even if it all did indeed start with the so-called victim inadvertently indicating via body language that she wanted what he had to offer. I don't know about Britain, but here in the states, once you are a convicted felon your employment options are drastically limited and it often takes an act of God or a damn good lawyer to convince the 'powers that be' that the recipient of said felony is once again capable of being a functioning and law-abiding citizen. My take on it anyway. |
