In Flames – Dial 595-Escape Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the song is actually fairly easy to decipher, save for times when the fact that In Flames is Swedish sometimes causes spotty english, but it's still proficient enough to be understood

The song seems to be largely about how fear of failure or some such prevents you from trying to achieve goals (or causes missteps in your attempts to achieve them). This results in you being trapped in a constant cycle of absence of fulfillment, but perhaps knowing what it is that you require to achieve fulfillment and hoping you can. The "drop to zero" probably refers to the absence of fulfillment, whereas the various times where one is hopeful in that fulfillment can be achieved is probably what makes it a cycle. "Grey" is generally used when something isn't just black and white, so perhaps "bounce in grey" refers to being uncertain about what you should do, or too scared to do what you need to due to fear of failure.

Therefore, "escape familiar home" probably means "escape the cycle of unfulfillment and just go for it". The memories and reality thing probably refers to numbness due to the constant cycle. Not entirely sure about "The wicked descend - I hide", probably means that the wicked simply take what they want through force, "descend", whereas this person simply hides to avoid pain.

In regards to what the stage of fulfillment is in this song, I'm assuming it has to do with finding someone who loves you, since the song says "Heal my wounds with everything, away, you complicate me"

In Flames – The Puzzle Lyrics 14 years ago
I have the booklet here, and the lyrics go like this:

And I tried to think, tried to paint the picture
I lived it all, wouldn't have to feel this way
Looking for something to believe in, I think I've done my time
One by one the pieces fall, tell me what it is to believe

You can tell days by their faces
There are always signs
Answers to the puzzle
Grab a piece of the light

Keep pretending I can handle everything
You'll never understand me
And I don't care what you think
Or maybe I do?

I think the song is about depression or some such. The chorus seems to be the ultimate reinforcement of this, essentially, you can always tell what they've seen through their face, as there are always signs. Answers to the puzzle and grabbing the piece of light probably have something to do with some sort of solution.

In Flames – Liberation Lyrics 14 years ago
First off, just a couple of quick corrections to the lyrics. I have to booklet right in front of me, and the chorus goes:

I found the way, and I'll return here soon
I have to see those who do not know
Rest in peace, I'm coming for you
And I will be there
I will be with you tonight

I think the song really has two meanings of sorts, though one of them is somewhat muddled to me due to the line "I have to see those who do not know". The meaning that I see as somewhat muddled is the one regarding love. The majority of the song seems focused on this specific meaning, though what exactly it is getting at, I'm not sure.

There does seems to be a sort of sub-meaning, too. This is mostly evident in the second verse and maybe the first chorus. It seems to be essentially stating "I'm here to live my life, and I'm here to make a difference". Perhaps he intends to live his life through his love for some other, and he intends to make a difference through that. Perhaps they are experiencing some hardships, and he intends to "Liberate" them, so to speak.

I love the song itself. I absolutely love it when metal bands can write such amazing soft songs, and this is easily one of my favorites. I especially love the way all the sounds just well up in the chorus, I actually find it somewhat difficult to not sing along at times.

Rise Against – Survive Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the song is simply saying that everyone has their problems, but the ones that have dealt with it, "Survived", have become stronger as a result of such, hence "How we survive is what makes us who we are". Essentially, it's telling you that it may be tough, but you will be forged into a better person depending on how you cope with and solve the problems, or how you survive.

In Flames – Metaphor Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm just gonna put out there that I don't think the song is necessarily about addiction. The songs title is "Metaphor", and addictions aren't necessarily metaphorical connections to sickness, it's a more literal connection. I'm also assuming that the song is told from one perspective, said perspective being Anders.
So, my assumption is that the "you" in this song refers to someone that Anders cares for, who is perhaps in some form of trouble, and Anders attempts to assist, "burying the pain", result in some negative consequences upon him, therefore "sickness".
Furthermore, I think the line "You made me feel like a sinner, now you fear you'll die alone" eliminates the addiction possibility.

Rise Against – Voices Off Camera Lyrics 14 years ago
My personal interpretation is probably wildly off, but it goes like this:
The first verse refers to somebody who is too caught up in their own pain to notice the pain of others, or is either too free of pain to notice the pain of others. Don't really know about the urgency part, but the blindness probably means the person singing is also too caught up in their life to see the problems of others

Chorus means that he's hit the ground (as in, a crash and burn type of thing), and as such is running from his problems. The "place to stay tonight" probably refers to him just getting help, maybe in the form of love, from somebody. "Swear I'll be gone in the morning" probably means he says he will fade from that persons life as soon as he becomes a burden, but he needs something there for him now.

The losing and winning part is fairly self explanitory. The strings part probably means he can't stand without the support (or possibly control, since it says strings) of someone else, probably the person whom he's asking for "shelter" for the "night". He dislikes the people around him, yet he's scared to be left alone with no one to stand by him. If life has taught him anything, he forgot it long ago, referring to the aforementioned blindness.

The heart part probably simply refers to that suppressing your emotions and not doing what you feel is right will leave you on your own. Dunno about the less traveled road part, but the desperate cries growing louder probably and getting closer probably refers to being rid of the aforementioned blindness.

That was needlessly long, but oh well ;p

Fuel – Falls on Me Lyrics 14 years ago
Perhaps you should stretch your imagination a little and use your wee little brain. Songs are open to interpretation, and you say "there's not an inkling of a trace of anything having to do with a girl throughout the whole song" when one of the lines is ">>>SHE<<< washes all my wounds for me". And last I checked, God was referred to as "He", "Father", masculine things.
The song also says "hands touching skin". While I can understand God metaphorically touching someone, that could also be interpreted literally as the girl touching his skin.
I'm fine with Christians and them believing in whatever they want to. What I'm not fine with, however, is ignorance, or people trying to rub their beliefs in peoples faces. And I can tell you that you are NOT bringing Gods light to anyone that way, you are merely alienating non believers and reinforcing their beliefs that God doesn't exist and anyone who believes he does is an idiot.
