This is a song about someone questing their faith. They look around and see a planet that is rife with trouble. A world turning to ashes from violence, famine, greed, and apathy. He also see it reflected in himself, as within so without. He asks in his own way the desperate cry of "Eli Eli lama sabachthani" this time not directed at God the father, but Jesus the son. How long can He just sit and watch the people who He "loves" suffer in this world? He asks if Jesus is afraid to come back, as he was in the Garden of Gethsemane. Is this just a game to him, or is he waiting for the world to tear itself to nothingness before he returns? This song seems to go along with the flow of the album, it leads straight into the following song "Buried Beneath" where he calls out for help before he is overcome. |

If we take this song as a conversation from God to a person who is struggling with life and doesn't no what to do next, then your question has an easy answer. God is now talking to the next person in line. This is a song he will always sing, it never ends. There is always another person who is suffering the same way and God sings the song all over again. |
