Breaking Benjamin – The Diary of Jane Lyrics 13 years ago
I actually don’t know if my interpretation fits with these lyrics, but right now I’m on a situation where I can relate with this song.

Some time ago I hooked up with this guy who wants nothing but a purely carnal relationship. I fell in love with him and it hurts knowing that I’d rather be with him in this situation than living without him.

“If I had to I would put myself right beside you. So, let me ask, would you like that? And I don’t mind if you say this love is the last time (we’ve had so many so called ‘last times’, but we know we’ll find each other again) so, now I’ll ask, do you like that?”

“Something’s getting in the way (he has a girlfriend). Something’s just about to break (my heart). I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane (Doe. I’ll explain later why he’s my John Doe). So tell me how it should be”

“Try to find out what makes you tick (what he dislikes about me) as I lay down sore and sick. Do you like that?”

“There’s a fine line between love and hate and I don’t mind. Just let me say that I like that” I don’t care whether he loves me or not as long as he’s with me.

“I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane as I burn another page, as I look the other way” I’m trying to find my way into he’s life, although he doesn’t allow it directly.

“Desperate, I will crawl waiting for so long. No love, there is no love. Die for anyone. What have I become?” At first he was John Doe for me. I didn’t know him that well. He was just some guy in my life who I didn’t care about and I wasn’t like this. I’m not like this. That’s why “Die for anyone. What have I become?”

I’m still trying to find my way into he’s life.

I think you are mistaken. "Try to find out what makes you tick". "Makes" = present tense, meaning that the girl is still alive.
