| Nightwish – Dead Boy's Poem (feat. Sam Hardwick) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| The line "I live no more to shame nor me nor you." is an almost direct quote from Shakespeares' sonnet 72, which is also about what one leaves behind when one dies. | |

I think this song expresses a disgust for what we have turned this world into. Denying the lying A million children fighting For lives in strife For hope beyond the horizon Everyone knows there is inequality in the world, but no-one wants anything to do with it, they are denying and lying to themselves, although not denying the lies. Oh well. Millions of children/people are struggling for life, but their lives will always be in strife, and the hope is beyond the horizon, unreachable. A dead world A dark path Not even crossroads to choose from All the bloodred Carpets before me Behold this fair creation of God! Very negative don't you think! I think it's saying that many people don't have a choice in live like we do (people rich enough to have internet access). Also all the bloodshed that is going on in this Planet Hell. The last line is definitely ironic, as has been mentioned. My only wish to leave behind All the days of the Earth This everyday hell of my kingdom come I'm sorry but i don't understand this bit even though other people have called it self explanatory. Is he saying he wants to die and leave this Planet Hell behind? And what kingdom come is an everyday hell? please someone explain! The 1st rock thrown again Welcome to hell, little Saint Mother Gaia in slaughter Welcome to paradise, Soldier This bit is talking about the war, and how it is human nature to be greedy and that this causes the wars. The first rock thrown again is a metaphor for people starting a war again and again. The whole world (mother Gaia; This is not supposed to be taken as a religious statement, but rather as a picture, an easier and perhaps more poetic way of saying something) is consumed by wars, murders, disagreements. The last line i think is meant ironically, saying that there is no paradise, only suffering. My 1st cry neverending All life is to fear for life You fool, you wanderer You challenged the gods and lost Second line is maybe another way of saying all life is to fear death? I think the last two lines are again saying that most of us don't have a choice and that you cant challenge fate (the gods). Any other thoughts on that? Save yourself a penny for the ferryman Save yourself and let them suffer In hope In love This world ain't ready for The Ark Mankind works in mysterious ways I think it is a commentary on our greedy capitalistic ways, and that we'll save the penny for ourselves rather than give it to the ones who suffer. Again, i don't think you should take the whole ferryman thing literally, it is a metaphor. Toumas likes to write cryptic lyrics as we all know, just to get a simple message across, don't take it too literally. So we save money for ourselves and let the rest suffer. Now with the ark i think he means the Ark of the Covenant, but I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean. Is it something God promised the Christians if they were nice? that would make sense to me. Mankind works in mysterious ways. Perhaps my favorite line. I think it is very mysterious how we can have members of the human race that have too much money than they know what to do with and have members of the same human race in such extreme poverty! on the other hand, it is sort of an excuse for that same thing, and all the other flaws we have. Maybe I'm wrong, but I know how to spell. |
