30 Seconds to Mars – Hurricane Lyrics 12 years ago
It's about religion, all of the negativity that comes about from religious dogmatism. Lots of repression (especially sexual repression); lots of violence. Pretty simple.

-The first stanza is about someone who ultimately doubts their religious choices but continues to practice their religion.

-The repetition of the word "crash" is reminiscent of the double plane crashes into the twin towers on 9/11. (the video takes place in Manhattan, mind you).

-The idea of the hurricane chasing us underground refers both to the deaths caused by the "hurricane" (religious dogmatism from every side) and the repression I mentioned before.

Everything else is mostly self-explanatory.

Tool – The Patient Lyrics 12 years ago
I kind of think this track is about the artistic process, especially in terms of creating for a wider audience. Maynard has said he wants the music to help people heal, or introspect or soul-search. The process of creating music and sharing it is draining, but it's because of his "desire to heal the damaged and broken met along" that he continues to do it in this manner.

The ego is the source of all suffering. Simple as that. Banish the ego, and all the allusions to suffering in this song would not exist.

This song reminds me of meditation, of observing one's thoughts. Thoughts drift and dissipate like clouds, and you'll find this to be true if you watch closely enough. Personally, the music seems neutral-- void of actual emotion, much the way one tries to be when meditating. I never really understood this song until I started to meditate. This song alludes to the fact that thoughts influence emotion, influence your consciousness. From one second to the next, nothing about your thoughts is exactly the same. It is in a constant state of flux, evolution or devolution.

Tool – H. Lyrics 12 years ago
It's pretty obvious-- this song is about Maynard's son. He is tempted (by the snake, his father, with whom he had an abusive relationship) to distance himself from this child. He realizes, however, that his former relationship with his father is a thing of the past, and he has the opportunity to kill the tendencies he could have inherited from his father by opening his heart and being vulnerable in having a loving relationship with his child. Simple as that.

I also think that the song might have been different if Maynard had a daughter instead.
