Chris Nathan – Someone I Used to Know Lyrics 14 years ago
I believe the "someone I used to know" is himself. As my friend Nathan Roberts once told me in Vegas, "noone knows you better than yourself, with the exception, quite possibly of your mother". I didn't believe him until my mother actually knew why I was sad before I did. Come to think about it, Nathan has also been to Seattle and LA and he likes to stand on corners. Maybe this song is about him.

Either way... definitely one of the elite, introspective, analyses of our time. Relax to this song, look inside, ignore your mother and get to know yourself like you used to.

Radiohead – House of Cards Lyrics 14 years ago
I was struck by this song in a weird way and I think I now have a feeling why. The narrator is attempting to pursuade a woman to leave her house of cards. And he is doing it in a unique way. He talks about how her world could collapse, leave it all behind, could be a good thing right? But I can't get over the keys in the bowl line. When I first heard it I kind of thought he was giving up on the seriousness of his current relationship and going to a wife-swapping party. But recently I now feel that he is appealing to someone elses woman continously througout the song. And the "I deal mine" part is he wants his shot at this woman. And leaving the house of cards is her husband. Now here's the part that gets me. It is like he is appealing to MY wife, all of our wives. I know I pysco analyst could do a number on me for feeling that way but the song really gives me the creeps as I picture someone using these same lines to take my wife away from me. And when I flip it around I really feel bad for high school/college girls who i pursuaded away from their guys. that is the emotion it created for me. I maybe over analyzing the subtly because of the gentle guitar lines but that musical base triggers a strong emotional reaction. Maybe its the realization that all my past relationships ended and turned into new ones. Maybe I am reliving those, maybe I am projecting future concerns. Whatever it is, this song has done a number on me. Personally, the Denial - whatever relationship he has with this girl will end as it started, in a daisy chain of starts and finishes. I think he is denying that this relationship will somehow be different.

The Tragically Hip – Vapour Trails Lyrics 14 years ago
This makes me think he is on the road. Replacing his normal distractions with a different lifestyle where he is not tied to anything. And if he gets bored he can rig a distraction or choose to bring something into his life to complicate it. Then when he's tired of that he can throw it a side and float away. A very alluring lifestyle, probably one we all long for when chasing kids and jobs. Not sure about the man walking, mexicans, and chambermaids but he mentions them all in terms of a landscape description so he's probably using those images to set the theme for the travel, road he is on or using it to set a dark mood of despair.
