I've always interpreted this as a broken heart (sung by a man but anyone with a heart can relate) trying anything (substance abuse, meaningless sex/short term relationship) to drowned out the memory of the one person who actually touched it. What can a person do to erradicate the one memory that won't go away? Alcohol, drugs, casual flings yet nothing stops the deep yearning for the one thing that you can't get back. Trying to hide it or snuff it out seems to only make it play on a loop. Forever. |

To me this song is an ode to a man I loved so deeply, but realized he was never going to feel that way about me. I cry every time I hear it because I had to give up. He was never going to reciprocate the feelings I had. I've since lost touch and moved on to a great place in life, but he will never know the extent of the love and desire I once had.
My favorite line is:

The beauty about song lyrics is the choice of the listener to apply aspects to his/her life... or just enjoy the song. For me, this is all about the sheer hold crystal meth can have on not just one person, but a couple. It could come straight from the meth roller coaster ride handbook, imo. Great song, but if you read between the lines... I agree with DEEPMUSIC13. It's all about the ENTIRE experience. Which can be VERY ugly. |
