one of my favorite maiden songs, gotta be said, the introduction itself just gives you the mental image of the ships on the waves, and the 'overlord, your master not your god' lyric, referencing the name of the d-day landings, operation overlord, is just brillant. the second verse in particular- All summers long the drills to build the machine To turn men from flesh and blood to steel From paper soldiers to bodies on the beach From summer sands to armageddon's reach a verse about training the men- from summer sands (going to the beach on holiday as childern)to armageddons reach (the landing beaches as men) |
