Dire Straits – Les Boys Lyrics | 12 years ago |
But I don't think he is being vicious. Cabaret theater is very different whether it is gay or not. The acts mingle with the guests who are eating and drinking. Oh it is definitely about the gay scene in Germany. Like you said they are proud to be homosexual and no longer hide it, but I think Knopfler is trying to say at any depth is that they have relegated themselves to an act, which may be less honorable than Jean Genet who led let's say an interesting life. They are letting themselves be treated like objects or objectified. Maybe not what they should be looking for? But Knopfler does this with precision in the fact that he recognizes what they want but they are going about it backwards. But I think he is getting a kick out of it at the same time, let's say the debauchery or hedonism of it. Peace |

If you are offended by this you need to get a life......It is lighthearted commentary on the German club scene. The "Gay" is meant not in the homosexual way.....more in the literal happy way. They are playing a part he finds amusing in this world of crazy relationships, nothing more. The whole album is about relationships between people. Remove the big chip from your shoulder guymontag |
Tom Waits – Martha Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Waits worked with Burroughs on the Black Rider which was a play Burroughs wrote the screenplay Waits wrote the music. I think this is a dark song not a happy one |

Splerb you got it. He is a guy who is a sad sot to say the least. it seems like the song operator by Jim Croce....almost a tribute to him. The other kind of weird thing is Tom Frost is a character from the "Naked Lunch" from William S Burroughs....Why Waits picked that name is very interesting |
Steely Dan – Midnight Cruiser Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It is Felonius not Thelonius as in Monk ~ buy the album the lyrics are on it. Geez I think the song is pretty self explanatory guys meet up and have a good time or what they perceive to be a good time......maybe a bit sarcastic in the lyrics |
Steely Dan – Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
To tell you the truth I think this song is about a pimp / drug dealer which lived below them and the guy is right who said this is literal and an observation of the seedier side of town angels bound with one another/ hookers his lady's aching to bring the body down/ have sex aces is slang for a joint I think the charmer part is how a pimp hustles the john's towards the hookers Just a guess from the album cover |
