| Amos Lee – Out of the Cold Lyrics | 14 years ago |

This is a very beautiful song and probably my favorite on the Mission Bell album. I saw Amos Lee in concert recently and he played this song solo and told the story of the song before he lay it down. Amos was visiting wounded veterans at Walter Reed hospital and he was inspired by the stories of the wounded soldiers he met. One young vet in particular was bedridden and his mother sat by him at his bedside. Amos walked over and talked to them and was so moved by the mother's devotion to her her son that he wrote this song. For me the lyrics are simple but breathtaking. They speak of human mortality and the real cost of war. The brave men and women who serve our nation overseas everyday come home with wounds, not all visible. They deserve our love and support, even if we can't always understand what they are going through. |
