Matchbox Twenty – Parade Lyrics 10 years ago
By far a sad song that me, and I'm sure others can relate to. It's about the person who always tries and looses, someone who loses something important, something so criminally fantastic. It's about a "slow parade" that's amazing and is fantastic, but you know all of the sudden, it would end. More than likely this is about a relationship. It's amazing and great, until all of the sudden, it's over and you have no choice but to leave, because they already left. It talks about being the person who left, and how, " you wish that you had stayed". And how there would have been so much more if you stayed around.
Then It covers being the one who was left behind, you were left there left around, and you didn't want the parade to leave, but it did. Even though you had so much you needed to work out, you beg for it to stay, to work it out. But they leave. And the days become all the same, no one knows your name, the people fade away, all stars are just a flicker, and you're left there all alone. Like a person who frozen standing in the same spot in the middle of the night, hours after the parade.

Whitley – More Than Life Lyrics 11 years ago
The word is in-fact belief, according to the cd pamphlet.
The song is clearly about contemplating a past relationship. and along with its passing, suicide. It's a very clear message with the phrase, "more than life" repeating. The pain that always returns makes him contemplate, as well as the thoughts of the girl. The way he speaks sounds almost like sone admitting contemplations and it fells very sincere, hard song to listen to,

City and Colour – The Way It Used To Be Lyrics 12 years ago
This is so sad :'( 20 years is such a long time to want someone back. It's clearly about every man's worst nightmare. Never take anything for granted.

Sum 41 – Walking Disaster Lyrics 13 years ago
Its pretty simple, It's all about a kid who runs away from home and how he hates the household he had to live in. But it also shows the bright side of, as he grows older he creates his own life and moves on to forget about his past, probably moving in with a girl and moving past and now he has people in his life that have earned his company and friendship instead of the whole, "I'm your mom/dad" line.

Three Days Grace – The High Road Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about a man who's, well frankly fucked. He's really messed up and the girl he cares about is trying to fix him. But his natural reaction is to appreciate it at first, but to relapse into his normal ways. It praises her for how she's gonna help him find the "right way out". But then it regresses in to a very dark tone about how she's the only light. She's the only good influence on him and he believes she's not going to be patient enough with him to straighten him up. Plus the dark side just wants to be good in-order to crush her. He wants to be the "mistake that she can't live with out". He pushes between knowing she's all that good for him and he keeps showing how he lies in the dark, because he wants to destroy "the only light breaking through the window." At the end he shows that he's trying to be the best he can, because he ends with saying, "We’ll I’m not gonna give it away Not gonna let it go just to wake up someday".
He feels as though he's a mistake and clearly a fuck-up, but he can make himself great enough so that he's the one she can't live without.

Linkin Park – I'll Be Gone Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about leaving things behind like @NightfallGemini say, either suicide or literally leaving all things behind.
He talks about the world and space collapsing and falling apart. He's leaving and not looking back on what he's leaving. Maybe telling others to "OPEN THEIR EYES" he was ignored, but now that all falls apart and lights go out, he will have already escaped before everyone sees what he's talking about. I like how the references to suicide are paired with symbolism from a man who escapes before a horrible disaster hits. It's almost like he's comparing peoples attitudes towards him, to those of the people who mock the man who escapes before all goes wrong. He shows that once people "open their eyes" they will have nothing but silence from him, because he will be gone.

Elbow – Grounds for Divorce Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this is a clear and accurate image of a man who's marriage is totally wrecked and he has become a heavy drinker. I believe from what I hear it's his life after loosing his son in the split. (for those who don't know, often, at least in many countries, women gain custody of children in divorces). and as I see it he's passing his time until the day his seldom seen kid can have a drink with him.

A. A. Bondy – A Slow Parade Lyrics 14 years ago
Quiet simply put it a tortured soul whos leaving. Hes leaving the person hes referring to when saying "is it you I was to meet". He paints this person in an aweful life saying, "With your saints there on a chain Waiting on another rain". I believe he is saying those who treat said person the best are those wish to leave the most. Showing that this person, most likely his lover, from the line In a dream where love was real, he shows he once believed it, but it was just a scene or imagination. And hes finally leaving, from the Find another horse to break. But I believe if you see how he refers that that person is "dragging their shadow" they are ashamed of people. Why I believe that if you hear "And Im going down. Where the waves will surround. To the roll and the pound. Of the wild, wild sea. Talking sweet to me" you see a light picture of peace and clarity. If you combine this to the idea that it's A slow parade, you may see a funeral. near the beggining of the 3rd stanze he says. "Marching in a slow parade. There are ashes where you laid. Sometimes I dont mind at all. And sometimes head against the wall" It may show the perspective of the person who caused the heart break. So I see it as a man who commited suicide in order to escape the horrible conditions he was in. Or maybe I just see it that way, because thats how my friend put it in his suicide letter to his cheating wife before he killed himself.
