Bruce Springsteen – I'm on Fire Lyrics 10 years ago
I thought the "sheets soaking wet" was saying he had a wet dream. Honestly I'm a bit surprised everyone seems to think it's just night sweats. The rest of the song goes to dirty places, I don't see why we assume that the last verse is about night sweats.

I think this song is about going to heaven.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Real Situation Lyrics 13 years ago
The rest of the uprising album is generally positive and supportive of people fighting for freedom and justice. Do you think this song is based off some of his fears or did he actually think that he wasted his life fighting for an impossible cause.

The Rolling Stones – You Can't Always Get What You Want Lyrics 14 years ago
The point of this song is that life can be pretty damn frustrating sometimes, but if you keep trying to get the most out of until you die, it it will be worthwhile.

Bob Dylan – Maggie's Farm Lyrics 14 years ago
This was Dylan's way of declaring his independence from the protest folk movement, and basically says they stifle his freedom in the same way the accuse the "establishment" of stifling theirs. Hence "She talks to all her servants about man and god and law. And everybody says she's the brain behind Pa" - aka the protest folk movement acts like a moral authority and ends up just not letting anyone else offer new ideas.

Also, the line "I wake up in the morning hold my hands and pray for rain. I got a head full of ideas that are driving me insane" is so true. I don't work in hard labor, but man that's the way it feels to wake up for work.

The Rolling Stones – Paint It Black Lyrics 14 years ago
Not to bring back the old Beatles vs. Rolling Stones argument, but is there any Beatles song ever that can hit you as hard as this song? And I think it's just about going through a tragedy and wanting the whole world to be dragged down with you.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – So Jah Seh Lyrics 14 years ago
Bob Marley is so good at capturing the pain and frustration of trying to get people to care about each other. You can hear the desperation in his voice in this song.

Bob Dylan – Shelter from the Storm Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the "I took to much for granted, I got my signals crossed" line is very important. I think he is saying that he was with her (who is apparently his ex-wife Sara?) he took their relationship for granted and forgot how much it had improved his life, and after they fell apart he realized that he should have just stayed with her. A more pessimistic interpretation is that he didn't really love her and just saw her as a way to have some quiet years, but eventually got bored and returned to his old reckless lifestyle.

Distant Relatives – Patience Lyrics 14 years ago
My interpretation of some of the references to ancient Egypt is that ancient Egypt was an early example of a materialistic culture which despite its amazing technological advances (or because of them) still appealed to some of the basest human emotions like fear of death. Instead of having patience and being willing to live with in their means, egypt overstepped their bounds and all that is left of them is some archeological marvels. I think Damien Marley and Nas are saying that we are on the same path and may end up destroying our own culture and leaving behind nothing but handful of big buildings.
