I think this song is about a Matt's friend who died. Matt stated in an interview that when he was 9 years old, his best friend committed suicide (" you had nine lives and one by one you chewed them up" probably means his friend has done a lot of shits all through his short life). Matt also stated in that interview that most of Alkaline Trio's songs are dedicated to him |

I think it's AS OBVIOUS AS HELL that this song is dedicated to the death of his father, because he mentions him, and it seems the song talks about someone dying and then his dad died when he was THREE years old. Miseria Cantare in italian is Sing the sorrow, and not just some verbes that makes up for it because it has the same meaning, like misery will sing or things like that. No it's simply Sing the sorrow! xD |
