She let's him know she's leaving. She doesn't love him anymore, for she is her own -true love. He does not yet realize this as she is his -true love. True love is the greatest gift God has given man. It is the strongest bond a human can have to someone. She asks what can she provide him to take his mind off her. He replies that nothing will ever do that, just stay safe and come back soon. She asks what can she provide him to replace her. His rebuttal is, basically, is nothing in the world, stars nor diamonds, could ever replace her, just take care of herself and come back to him soon. The only thing he wants is her. She hints again that she is leaving and asks once again. He asks why ask again as this is bringing me sorrow, he'll always want his true love. He is coming to realizing she's not coming back but not fully accepting it because she never said she's not. Time passes, he's been lonely, he receives a letter she sent while traveling. Now, conclusive to him she is not coming back anytime soon because of "how she is feeling".. seemingly feelings for someone else. He replies That he has realized her heart is not where his is. "Take heed of the west wind" he tells her is a metaphor to take care and don't trust what's too good to be true. This is said with unconditional love as he's not begging her to come back or trying to change her. Traditionally west wind is the most mildest and favorable winds in Europe but can also bring devastation and destruction. He says he'll "take heed of the stormy weather." Stormy weather is the metaphor for the harsh impact and change this has taken on him emotionally. Then when requesting for the boots. Spanish boots were a torture device during the Spanish Inquisition, it dealt great pain and the victim, if survived would be crippled and endure life long pain. Spanish leather is, commercially today, a cologne, but 100's of years ago Spanish Leather notes were a very strong and very long lasting fragrance. So he's saying he's accepted that he'll forever endure the crippling torture of having, the never ending, true love for someone he's thinks of ever day but will never see again. As he's already stated the brightest stars nor the deepest diamonds could never amount his feelings of her or replacement thereof.. meaning he'll never love another as he loves her or something or someone will always remind him of her. my two cents. i dunno. Mandolin Orange's version of this song is what inspired me to interpret the reason of using repetition of adjectives for the leather boots. Spanish boots of Spanish leather. |

meh... i dunno why it double posted, i cant find how to delete them under my profile and stuff >.< There's a darkness upon me that's flooded in light In the fine print they tell me what's wrong and what's right And it comes in black and it comes in white And I'm frightened by those who don't see it He's stuck on path but sees where he wants to go. but his upbringing/society/authority figure/law/rules say he cannot go that way. it's plain and simple and it worries him that others aren't pushing back against it. When nothing is owed, deserved or expected And your life doesn't change by the man that's elected If you're loved by someone you're never rejected Decide what to be and go be it. You are born free and are not obligated to anything. no matter what the authority says. You are free to do what you want and find love and go be what you want to be. There was a dream One day I could see it Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it there was a kid, with a head full of doubt So I scream til I die or the last of those bad thoughts are finally out He had his dreams and wanted to chase them from being held down and stifled for so long, he broke free and demanded it to be allowed his dream. others cast doubt on his ideas to sway others to not speak up. So he would preach his mind until he died or until others let him be. |

like a bird in a cage i broke in and demanded that somebody free it and there was a kid with a head full of doubt so i scream till i die or the last of those bad thoughts are finally out"... this is so beautiful. so poetic. to me..this section describes things that cannot speak for themselves or are too afraid to such as a caged bird or a kid with a head full of doubt. so he's screaming till he dies or until the last of these horrible thoughts are gone..meaning he will scream..be the voice for these voiceless things until he no longer needs to be. excellent way of putting it. I do agree, it is poetic and I like your interpretation. |
