| The Gift – Driving You Slow Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I saw The Gift live this summer. They were great! Although it's a hell of a battle to find mp3 downloads of their albums... I think this song is about a woman who likes this man, but is very nonchalant towards him. As if she's saying, if you want to be in my life, great! If not, okay. Whatever. I'll still sing my songs. She'll only begin to truly care for him when she has him, not when she's just pining for him to avoid getting hurt ("I will keep my helmet on"). The entire song is just a really big confusion, with all the "and I..."s, but it works. When she sings lines like, "I don't care, why should I care?" and "Someone loves you but I don't care for you," are what bring me to believe that she has a very loose leash on him, so to speak. To summarize: she's gonna take her time driving him slowly towards her, and only then will she remove "her helmet". |
