Manic Street Preachers – Montana/Autumn/78 Lyrics 14 years ago
This is about Theodore John "Ted" Kaczynski, otherwise known as the Unabomber. He embarked on a mail-bombing spree from 1978-1995, killing sevearl people and injuring many more. He lived as a recluse in a cabin in Montana.

"Luddite lover" refers to a group of industrial workers who protested against automation of factories in the 19th century, going as far as to sabotage factory equipment. Kaczynski beleived that modern industrial practises were destroying people's freedom and happiness, and also sobotaged industrial developments that were taking place near his cabin.

I have to admit I don't understand all of this song. I wonder if "Know what you mean, but not what you do" suggests that the MSP agree with his beliefs, but not his bombings.

Manic Street Preachers – A Design For Life Lyrics 14 years ago
Givemeataco, Travis' "Slide show" came out about 1999, so it is the other way round. Travis are referencing this song (released in 1996), along with Oasis' "Wonderwall" (1995) and Beck's "Devil's Haircut" (1996).

This song is about the way society stereotypes the working class, ignoring the fact that they can be creative, intelligent and ambitious. (In the eyes of the media and upper classes "We don't talk about love, we only want to get drunk").

The use of "we" and "us" throughout the song shows that despite their fame, the band still consider themselves part of this class.

This is truly a great song. I still remember the day in 1996 I bought it on cassette, which started something: 15 years on, there is still no other band that really matters.
