I've heard it too, I think it plays in their song; 'MFC' too. So may its the horn of a Mini-Cooper?

Love the line; "Those ignorant Indians got nothing on me". I don't pretend to know for certain but I think this line, when listened to with the lines before it is about how we've all come a long way, some of it bad some of it good, and yet we still have the indecency of thinking some races are superior or inferior to others. Ne'er the less, a great PJ song!!!

Good interpretations

Just about the mask a bit seeing as you said you weren't sure of it

Masks are usually symbolic of the PERSONA a person chooses to display e.g. Around only just your mates you will put on a mask that is 'a blokey' type of person. Yet if you were visiting a friend in the hospital your personality will be more respectful.

Get me?

This line about masks is in response to the line he says just before it 'poise blows by'. So say if this song is about a car crash or the breaking up of a relationship, he says poise blows by, so in that moment he broke down and was hysterical (say when he was cradling his girlfriend after a crash)

So this line about 'Can wear my mask' is clearly after the event and he has reverted back to a stage where he can not break down and 'mask' his emotions

Well thats how i see it anyhows :) hope this helps
Just remember that Pearl Jam are an amazing band that make songs that never really be viewed in only one way

Agree with all the interpretations so far!
But for me this song points out beautiful things
e.g. Full moon shining off a Camaro's hood, the souvenir you keep house keys on.
These things have so much beauty when you 'stop and smell the roses'
PJ are gods :) <3
