| The Smashing Pumpkins – Disarm Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I have a friend and I think this song reflects his relationship with his mom perfectly. He doesn't have a dad, so his mom has to work a lot to support the family (it's just him and his mom). As a result of his mom being gone all the time my friend smokes a lot of pot and basically just doesn't give a sh*t. His mom is screwing him over without even realizing it. My friend just pretends like everything is okay so the mom has no idea. This song is what I imagine their relationship to be like in the future. "Disarm you with a smile And cut you like you want me to Cut that little child Inside of me and such a part of you" The mom never has a chance to think something is wrong because the speaker always "disarms" her with a smile. When he says cut you like you want me to cut that little child, it means: I'm just gonna disconnect myself from you, not really stay in touch with you anymore, the same way you want me to disconnect myself from the child inside me. The child that I never got to be because I had to face a lot from a young age. Disarm you with a smile And leave you like they left me here To wither in denial The bitterness of one who's left alone Basically the same as the last thing where the kid pretends nothing is wrongs but leaves the mom, just like the mom left the kid so much when he was young. The kid never really made any friends and was alone all the time. Leaving him in denial of what his life became. "I used to be a little boy So old in my shoes And what I choose is my choice What's a boy supposed to do? " This is saying that he used to be young but by leaving him so much, he had to learn to live on his own. And the fact that he's going his own way is his choice. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Bullet with Butterfly Wings Lyrics | 14 years ago |

If you manage to follow this, I promise you will be enlightened. My interpretation of the title is that the bullet represents violence and the butterfly wings represent change. So a bullet with butterfly wings would represent change through violence. I also picture a bullet with butterfly wings being shot out of a gun and just floating - like a bitterly. So the idea is that change can't happen through violence. When the chorus says "despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage" the speaker is misguided: it's BECAUSE of his rage that he's still a rat in a cage. This idea could play into the entire theme of the album, which is essentially about life for those who aren't familiar with MCIS. But back to the song, the speaker is really getting pissed off that no one will listen to him and goes on to say that he can't be saved - even though it is his anger that preventing this change he wants. Basically his anger leads him into deeper depression. |

My interpretation of the song is that it's kind of a continuation from "Zero." Billy Corgan refers to his depression as his one and only in the last line of the song. So now here he is "stalking" his depression which he must have lost at some point in the album (Here is no why?) because he misses it. When the officer is dragging him away and lily waves goodbye, that was him coming to terms with his depression. I have no idea if I'm right, but I'm just throwing that idea out there to show that this album is connected in much deeper ways than any of us could imagine. |

| Yeah I noticed that too. This might be a stretch, but when they say "one and only" in zero, he is referring his depression and how much he needs it. So maybe in "Lily" the song is about him "stalking" his depression because he wants it back so much? Then when the officer is "dragging him away" that represents someone saving him from his depression. IDK if anyone said that already, but I'm just throwing that out there that the whole album is all connected on an even deeper level than any of us can imagine. | |
