Just about 7 years too late... Much like many people have said, this song is about devolution. However, when viewed with the album as a whole, many have argued it is about global warming, which is plausible, but it definitely is about a demise to our way of life caused by our use of the planet. In many songs it suggests that in order to stay alive humans had to get on boats and take to the ocean. From this we can see how Brock is saying that we are devolving back into the ocean from whence we came because of how we treated the earth. As is with most this album as well, the song is from the point of view of someone who lives in this collapsing world, so discussions about a relationship is also possible. |

This is a song about identity. Something we are always asking ourselves, "Who are we?" and thats why its on about how we're the people that we wanted to know. Isaac also looks at people who say they are "already there" but he knows that they are even farther away from knowing their identity. I also see how this relates to other songs, in Tiny Cities Made of Ashes where he wants to know "how a body could get away", and Blame it on the Tetons where "sight is just a window from the room we're bound to. If you find a way out would you just let me know how?" Here he is running away from finding his search of identity because he can't get to it, wanting to know how he could get away from the room that is our body, constantly locked into this place with no one to put the fire of the search for identity out. FWUH! Isaac Brock is some sort of super genius, songs across many albums can help prove each other so well... |

| I would completely agree except for the part about being 'posessed by your DAUGHTER', if it said son...Or something regarding men I would see it. But I think this is a funny interpretation anyway. | |

My mom died of cancer earlier this year, and I think about it all the time but the only thing that makes me really cry is this album, and specifically this song. I hate this song so much but love it at the same time. I usually can only listen to this album once every month at most because its so hard to. |
