| I just read the lyrics again and I feel as though the second verse is directed more towards an ex-lover or something along those lines. I still feel as though the first verse is about his best friend. I could be wrong but this is the what I perceived the song to be about. | |

| I always thought this song was about him losing his best friend. "You can lead a horse to freshwater but you can't teach it how to be okay when you decide to leave" as a reference to him trying to lead his friend out of the depression he was in, but as soon as he left his friend just went back into that depression. | |
