This is my take on this song. watch the music video and it will all make sense. It is about a car accident that killed his soul mate or loved one. He questions why God was not there for him at that moment. "Where were you, when everything was falling apart? All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang, And all I needed was a call that never came,To the corner of 1st and Amistad" He is trying to say that he was calling for God at the moment of this accident which took place at the corner of 1st and amistad. "But in the end everyone ends up alone ,Losing her, the only one who's ever known, Who I am, who I'm not and who I want to be, No way to know how long she will be next to me" shows how much this person meant to him.
