Christina Grimmie – Find Me Lyrics 13 years ago
In the REMIXED episode from DS2DIO that she was in she seemed to indicate that it was about the same relationship that Liar Liar was about, although it's hard to be sure whether this was actually the song she was talking about, given the editing.

It is pretty opaque, though.

really? 80 comments and no one has pointed out the obvious phallic/sexual undertones?

1st verse is basically addressing people with phallic insecurities:
first stanza: hey, need some viagra?
second: does your penis ever feel really small and one "blow" from premature ejaculation?
third: do you feel like you're so "deeply in" that you want to scream, but your partner seems to not even notice?

the pre-chorus and chorus and the chorus should be pretty self-explanatory: be proud of your member! i mean, igniting the spark so that your bursting colors shoot across the sky (oh oh oh)? comeon!

after a hurricane (something that blows) comes a "rainbow"
2nd verse 2nd stanza: possibly rape encouragement... this one actually threw me off a bit

the moon isn't actually /that/ bright, so it's not impossible that 'whatever has been inside this person' is, indeed, brighter than it.

now, that was meant as a half-joke (and was terribly uncomfortable to write... but i got the idea and had to go through with it xP), but i seriously think the songwriter was aware of and laughed about all the double entendres, while still sticking to a generic individuality-encouraging text and intending that to be the "real" meaning.

Okay, oops

"To make sure this comment is just a bottle of Haterade" should obviously be:

-"To make sure this comment is __not__ just a bottle of Haterade"-

Maybe I should proofread before posting instead of 3 days after... Oh well.

I like this track (how can I not?), but the lyrics really bother me... Here's why:

"Sometimes you look at you
and _the face you see's, not who you wanna be_"

Implication: you are your face. Why I'd have a prollem with this is probably evident...

"Everybody's got it together
or at least that's what it seems"

To make sure this comment is just a bottle of Haterade, I'll say that these lines are defs cool. If the song had continued to lean more towards treatment of self-deprecation and a general over-estimation of others' abilities like this, it'd have been awesome. Too bad.

"And if they make you feel ugly
Just imagine everybody in their birthday suits"

Sure, this makes for a fun, upbeat silly song, but if taken as it is without giving Grimmie "the benefit of assumed irony", the chorus is straight up patronizing. Trivializing the feeling of being ugly (and the feelings of victimization, loneliness, alienation and general suckiness associated with it) by saying that one should "just" imagine neckid people borders on belittling (an effect that might be intensified when the appearance of the singer [obviously miles away from ugly] is considered). I mean, I am aware that I'm looking at it through the completely wrong lens (ie "Calm down, it's just a joke!"), but still.

"Oh-oh, oh-oh!
Funny how it looks when you switch the roles"

Yeah, before, I was just being bullied, now, I'm being bullied while fantasizing about ppl in their bday suits! Wow, a veritable castling, this.
(Written from first-person persp. for effect; I, personally, am not rly bullied)

"Never know what's underneath until it gets exposed"

Okay, I really don't get this. No one has been actually exposed (imagination!=reality, remember?), so this line is pointing out that the listener's imagination will be inaccurate? Or are the bullies' naked bodies somehow horribly deformed (something that apparently was made visible by the power of imagination!), and everyone be hatin on them (first of all: doesn't make sense, second: not smth to cheer 'bout)? Just: what

"She may look better than you
But come on, she's vain, she doesn't have a brain
His pants hang lower than yours,
but he stumbles when he tries to run"

First of all, this concedes that good looks and low-hanging pants (lol, weird example) are apparently desirable (minor issue). What bugs me a lot more though, is that stumble-running obviously follows as a direct effect from low-h. pants, and therefore leading us to believe that this line suggests that every pro has a necessary con. If we look back to the 1st 2 lines with the knowledge we gained from the last 2, it seems as if the stereotype 'Pretty girls=stupid and superficial' is being reinforced. Obviously not cool.

More fundamentally, these lines intimate that the solution for people who think of themselves as sucky is to convince themselves that /other people suck too/! This type of 'egalitarian misanthropic self-hate' is verily a very negative world-view. I might be some kind of romantic idealist, but self-empowerment and an intact appreciation of your fellow humans strikes me as a multiple times more agreeable approach. You know?

Song's still catchy as heck, though.

This is an /awesome/ song :D! That the singing is great goes without saying, the music is so catchy, and I like the lyrics a lot too. I mean, the phrase "love is all you need" usually seems blasé and empty, but here it's put in a meaningful context: love is all you need, the only way to realize this is to actually achieve it, to achieve it you must live fully without filters, and doing this requires that you discard all your "defenses", i.e. spooks like fear, insecurity, self-censorship, nervousness etc. I get it, and this touched me quite deeply. (It's a lot easier said than done, though xD) There are many other nuggets in there too.
The video is magnificent as well. Christina looks amazing in it, the narrative and direction are very appealing (I must admit, I was on the verge of crying the first time I saw it xE), and there's a moment at 2:40 where song and video combine to make an inexplicably striking impression on me xS.

By the way, I'm pretty sure it's:
"Make sure to let down your defenses
There's just one way to make you see"
