I agree, this song is amazing. However, I don't think this is about a girl and a guy in love. I believe the singer is talking to a young relative - a little sister, or a niece (Laura does say in the liner notes that this song is dedicated to/about her niece). The singer is saying "our family is fucked up, and I feel so bad that I'm not here for you all the time. I know you are strong, but you are so young...I just wish I could know for sure that you will break free. Just promise me that if you ever need help, come to me." That's my two cents. I think it's pretty cut and dry actually. |
