i definitely think it's some sort of failed suicide resulting in at least some duration of unconsciousness. no one seems to have entertained the possibility that in whatever way she tried to kill herself, she accidentally blinded herself and survived. mostly i think this pretty cleanly explains the lines the doctor said: "was it worth it?" "could it be worse than this?" i don't know but it also sounds reasonable to assume that's why she was holding her hand to talk to her, i feel like that's a thing people do to newly blind people to not scare/disorient them from just hearing disembodied voices coming from somewhere in a room. i think it also gives the lines: "now where is everybody?" "is it still light outside?" new (depressing as fuck) context, especially when the first line is stating that it is definitely light outside, morning; and the last line is her asking someone to tell her. great bookends. but idk, amazing song though. i wish they had more songs like this. |
