How do you explain all the metaphors? I would say with Maynard's musical history, his songs are never just about "sex" with some hot chick. Read what I have posted on the last page... Its is about Religion promising something... whether it be healing or heaven... and it never comes. "What is she, what is she, what is she waiting for?" You trust and believe... put your blinders on for religion, and you fall.. You don't have that return... "She" as in "religion" is not allowing "I'm ready to blow" **COME*** to Christ. I try to explain without being explicit... but it is hard. |

| The lyrics are too precise to be "nice, pretty, fun". Everything Maynard does has a solid purpose. That is the type of man he is. There is a lot more to Maynard then just a song writer, or just an artist.... I would take a look at his past, what happened to his mother... it might make you think there is something deeper in everything he says. | |

I like how you broke that down... look at my post at the end of this. It isn't a secret that Maynard feels this way about religion because of what happened to his mother. Most of his songs SAY EXACTLY IT IN THE LYRICS.... and people don't bother to LISTEN... just conclude that it's about sex. Nicely written. =D |

It is rather different and confusing song, I would listen to "Judith" from A Perfect Circle. Most of Maynard's lyrics are about his mother and how she was shunned by the church when she fell ill. Most of his music revolves around the demons mostly found in the church. If you see what i wrote below, you will see the other references. =D |

Mr. Caduceus.... I don't think this song is about sex with all of the religious metaphors throughout... If you research and understand Maynard's history and what happened with his mom, the song makes a whole hell of a lot more sense. The basic principle is that "She" as in "religion" sucks the people dry. It is not directly related to sex, however used as a metaphor on how the church will Rape you basically. Listen to it a few times after you read about Maynard's mom. It will make more sense. Also, you can listen to the song "Judith" by A Perfect Circle. That is about his mother too. You can tell most of his lyrics form around his mother and religion in some way... No matter how goofy his songs seem... they always have a meaning. |

If you research Maynards history, you will see his deep seeded hatred for the religious community. His mother dedicated her life to the church, and when she became sick, the church turned their back on her and didn't help. My interpretation of this song is of "Religion" itself. The lyrics: " She'll suck you dry And still you'll cry, to be back in her bosom To do it again She'll make you weep And moan and cry, to be back in her bosom To do it again" Meaning: The church will suck your time, your money, your everything... You cry for God, and go back to the church, you go back to the religion crying for more. "(Pray) Til I go blind (Pray) Cause nobody ever survives Prayin' to stay in your arms just until I can die a little longer Saviours and saints, devils and heathens alike She'll eat you alive" Most religions push prayer as an answer or a guide. Pray, Til I go blind. You can pray and pray, and things will happen as they are anticipated. Pray until you go blind. (You are not curing yourself with prayer). "Pray, cause nobody ever survives." Like I said prior, your prayer will not save your life... no one survives off prayer alone. The church community "sucks" the people dry : "Saviors, Saints, Devils and Heathens Alike" is what is promoted by most churches that we are all sinners. If you have been to a church, there are people who present themselves as "Savior or Saint" and others that admit to their "devilish ways". She (The Religion, the church) will eat (take your money, take your time, take who you are) you alive. "My pulse has been rising My temples are pounding The pressure is so overwhelming and building So steady now freddy; I'm ready to blow What is she What is she What is she waiting for?" What I would believe he is saying here is, that no matter what, you will always be ready to make that next step... and it will never happen. This is what I believe is the reference that their is no heaven, their is not step up. |
