His mom's name was Judith, and she also suffered a cerebral aneurysm when he was a kid. Just saying. You can try to act like it's not talking about what he's talking about, but "Fuck your god Your lord, your Christ" can be taken quite literally. "He did this Took all you had and Left you this way Still you pray, never stray, never Taste of the fruit Never thought to question why" It's the standard, "Why would God let this happen if he really was good?" scenario. There also seems to be a lot of resentment towards his mother for believing in something to what he perceived to be cruel or at the very best indifferent. She didn't deserve to have it happen to her, in his eyes, and he can't see why she would still be faithful to something like that. This kind of has to be one of the most straightforward APC songs. |

to me* If you look at it through the lens of "All you're trying to do is belittle me, so I'm not going to let it get me down or pay you any mind anymore, so stop trying," is a great message for people who are dealing with people who keep harping on them endlessly and without resolve, but I do think that who Jonny Craig himself may be voicing it at DGD. |

The line "Oh, I stand so high, that I have never listened" to mean really sounds as though he's trying to say that "I'm above what you say and I'm not going to let it affect me," but it also kind of alludes that, well He has never listened. It was kind of hard at first to decide whether he was vocalizing this as self-depreciation or if he prided himself in being stubborn. I kind of think it's the latter considering the first part of the chorus. |
