3 Doors Down – What's Left Lyrics 14 years ago
It's about a guy reflecting back on a relationship that two people are still desperately trying to cling to - whatever little is left of it. They've said everything to each other to try and save it that could've possibly been said and it still didn't work. ("There's nothing left to say, nothing left to prove"). It's not anyone's fault. It's simply broken.

Over the course of the time they've been split it up, which is roughly a year, a dying version of their relationship is still fighting for life - from both sides. Clinging desperately to not let the flame burn out completely. But he realizes that in order for them to both actually move on and forward, as excruciating as that may be, they need to cut ties completely and walk away. ("The only way to get on with my life is to say goodbye. So goodbye.")

It's about recognizing that remaining in the purgatory of a broken relationship prevents them from properly moving on with their lives and they need to say goodbye to what's left. That tiny sliver of their heart that is still holding on is still broken and is preventing them from moving on. ("Now it's time to turn and walk away from what's left of me and you.")

Trying to put what's left of a relationship out of your misery - as unbelievably hard as that is.

Darren Hayes – Unlovable Lyrics 14 years ago
I just saw a video interview with Darren Hayes promoting his new album, "Secret Codes and Battleships", and he quoted this song as his favorite he had recorded.

He said that he had received an email, from a person whom he had a relationship with, over a year after it had ended. The email basically went through reason after reason why the relationship didn't work and why it ended now that the other person had time to reflect and heal a little. Darren described it as "hurtful", which is how most anyone would take it.

He said he kept his composure and dignity and didn't respond with a hateful email, despite the fact that he wanted to. Instead, he turned his hateful response into this song.
