The song describes a man who after having been left has begun the path downwards, with alcohol, late nights, drugs, cheap hotel rooms (Chelsea hotel?). He obviously wakes up hang over and need to prepares, being only a shadow of his former self. The end with "santa claus comes forward that's a razor in his mit... and he shows you were to hit" indicates that he is ready to shave or ready to cut those veins on his arm. "Hit" could also impose drug usage but then I suppose he would use a syringe and not a razor... "The cameras pane" indicates fainting or leaving him self, but "The stand in stunt man" and "rehearsal" leaves that impossible to say. Nevertheless, a fantastic song by one of the greatest modern poets! |

| In the times there were as mentioned in the song advertisement on the back of magazines, that promoted various religious groups, the Rosicrucians being on of them, obviously promoting solutions, love, happiness etc which they would send you in unmarked envelopes to not risk exposure once you'd sent them the coupon with your name and presumably bank account details to join. | |
