| The song makes me want to listen again and again but I couldn't get the tune of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Saturday Night Special out of my head while listening to it. Not a bad thing-it is an awesome song too! I believe this song could have several meanings-for one he is singing to someone frozen in the uptight, narcissistic, numb world of today and realizing that he once felt frozen and less purposeful but now feels the ability to let go of the anger and selfish behavior and can "wave his arms again". It also has a connotation that a selfish person was being an ass in his actions of only thinking of himself and was "injured or paralyzed"-thus causing a "handicap" that ascended him to a complex feeling of being owed something. He was trying to be there for him but his friend's selfish anger from the "incident" gave way to more self destruction-the singer realizes this and moves on "my arms waving and I'm saying goodbye" meaning he is simply done trying to be the better man. Because no matter what-some people never learn... | |
