I get this feeling that he is talking to his daughter and I think he is mostly making references to god and jesus in terms of sacrifice and bleeding.
Either way, this band flies way under the radar and is pretty awesome. This song in particular. |

I think this song has something to do with him feeling like he needs her to protect him from the world. The raincoat is clearly symbolism for her being with him. If she is with him she will save him from the rain or the sadness that he feels like he is stuck in. He needs her to come back and he is willing to do whatever it takes even though he feels helpless and stuck.

Clearly the songs meaning is pretty clear. But the thing I really like about this song is the real soul that Dan puts in it. He really feels it like he knows how other people feel it. When youre losing a girl and you cant get her out of your head no matter what you do. Your head just wont let you give up on her and every moment is consumed by her. |

No matter what you do, sometimes you just cant get that girl out of your head and maybe part of you wants to get rid of it because she broke your heart or whatever but the other part doesnt want to let it go because of how she makes you feel even if you arent with her. Dan and Pat captured this perfectly.
